In the Land of Oz, you have met many diverse characters – both good and evil. But I will bet you didn’t know that there are legions of others behind the scenes in Oz who have played many important roles. You are acquainted with the Munchkins, and of course, the evil funky flying monkeys, but I wonder if you know about Ping; Glinda, the good witch’s familiar. Familiars are those beings attached to someone who will do that someone’s bidding.

Ping, a playful, and wholly loving spirit, helps to rebuild Oz after much chaos. He is the Johnny Appleseed of Oz. Ping delights in sowing seeds, planting new sprigs and twigs, and helping to beautify the land.

Ping is created in the style of Pam Grose’s dolls. Using a wire armature to create the free standing figure, we will build and dress the body. The emphasis of the class after this, will be on cloth sculpting the head and unique faces for Ping. Each face will be a one of a kind, and then we will layer paints until Ping’s personality emerges.

This class is a two day class so that you will not feel rushed, will understand the concepts including the face sculpting, and go home with a finished Ping.

THERE WILL BE MINIMAL PRE-CLASS WORK REQUIRED SO THAT YOU NEED NOT BRING A SEWING MACHINE WITH YOU.
